I Have the Green Light!

More on the picture in a minute. I haven’t written for a few days because there hasn’t been much to write about. I am in Group 4 of four groups consisting of four patients and their caregivers. A total of 16 patients. Since I am in the last group, that means that we are the last ones to do anything. The picture above is the schedule that Ana (the most fabulous nurse!) put together so we could see it all in one place and not just on the schedule on the phone. As you can tell, the beginning of the week was full of testing.

I was holding my breath until we actually got to Puebla (because I really couldn’t believe that we were actually doing this!) and then I was holding my breath until I cleared all of the tests. I’ve always made the joke that I’m in really great health except for this little neurological disorder! I’ve always said that in an off-the-cuff sort of way, but what if it isn’t true? What about the heart problems on my father’s side of the family? What if there is some unknown freaky disease floating around in this body? Let’s be honest, the MS Terrorists are pretty good at covering up a lot of things. They enjoy taking credit when they absolutely do not deserve the credit!

Well, the good news is that the only thing lurking around was my, not terribly unusual, UTI. I can thank those Terrorists for that one! So, if you are able to blow the picture up a little, you will see that tomorrow morning I get my first round of chemo at 1:00pm. It will take 5 hours. Then on Saturday I get a second dose at 8:00am. Ana says that she’s going to give me the anti nausea medicine at particular times which should really help in making sure that I don’t get sick. So, fingers crossed, because I really hate getting sick!

On a side note, my sister in law will be starting chemo for Ovarian Cancer on the 9th. I’ll be able to let her know what it’s like, though I believe that the chemo’s are a little different from each other. If I can answer any questions for someone that hasn’t gone through this and ease their mind a little then I’m all for it! Add her to any prayers, if you will.

What I’ll say about Clinica Ruiz is that the people are great, the accommodations are great, the medical treatment is great, but not being able to leave is not so great. We can go to the rooftop which is a big sitting area with great views of the city. Dick walked toward the front door the other night just to see what would happen. What happened was two guards stopping him to see if he needed anything. Like I’ve said all along – it’s a combination of Club Med and prison.
